Brief introduction

Yandong Chen was born in Hunan, China, in 1979. He is currently a professor, a doctoral tutor, and a deputy director of the National Engineering Research Center for Power Conversion and Control, Hunan University. Prof. Chen is one of the youth top-notch personnel in the National Ten Thousand Talents Program in China, a recipient of Youth Science and Technology Award of China, Youth Award of Science and Technology Award of China Power Supply Society, and Youth Science and Technology Award of Hunan Province. He also serves as a director of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, the Senior Member of IEEE, and deputy director of the Youth Working Committee of the Chinese Power Supply Society. To meet the major demand of China in the field of high-power electric energy conversion and control, he has made breakthroughs in many core technologies such as high-power electromagnetic metallurgical systems, island special power systems, and renewable energy power generation equipment. As the technical director, he developed the world’s leading wide and thick slab high-density electromagnetic stirring system, the first megawatt-level island power system in China and other core equipment, which have been applied and promoted in domestic and foreign metallurgical enterprises and defense units. He has presided over a National Key Research and Development Project, two General Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and a General Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province, etc. As the lead researcher, he has also participated in more than 10 projects including the National Key Research and Development Project, the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program), Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Key Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province. He has obtained more than 50 authorized invention patents, and has published more than 20 SCI papers and more than 20 first-level journal papers in China as the first author/corresponding author, one of which was awarded as “China’s 100 Most Influential Domestic Academic Papers”. Besides, Prof. Chen won the 2018 Innovative Team of National Science and Technology Progress Award of China, the 2020 National Science and Technology Progress Award of China (The preliminary assessment has been approved and announced), the 2014 National Technology Invention Award of China, the 2014 WIPO-SIPO Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Invention, 2018 SIPO Award for Chinese Excellence Patented Invention Award, and other three provincial and ministerial prizes in scientific research.
